Here’s an old architectural concept illustration from sometime in 2008. A sort of portico of brick archways suspends a living roof accessible from the second story of the main building to which both are attached. Small fruit-bearing trees could be made to take root making a pleasant garden roof-top.

I hope you like it. Marker & ink.

The word gnome is derived from the New Latin gnomus.

The word gnome is derived from the New Latin gnomus.

It is often claimed to descend from the Greek γνώσις (gnosis), meaning knowledge.

It more likely comes from genomos (earth-dweller), in which case the omission of e is, as the OED calls it, a blunder.

Paracelsus includes gnomes in his list of elementals, as earth elementals. He describes them as two spans high, and very taciturn.

More marker-work:

Sometimes you begin an illustration with an idea of how it should turn out, but your hands just start making stuff up & you get something even better.

My scanner was a great help in making the sun glare in the clouds look just right.
