Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones, Jr.

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

I drew this on Friday, but wasn’t able to get it to you until now.

Earlier this week, I saw an image of Indy which I believe to be during a scene from Last Crusade at Barnett College.  I thought it would make a good challenge for a couple of reasons:

  • I have no confidence in drawing human and animal figures, so this was a good image to try to sketch (not trace) to push my envelope a bit; and
  • When people think of Indiana Jones, they of course envision something to the effect of this:

  • So if I stick to the conventional image of this character (bull whip, fedora, leather jacket, stubble), you could identify him even if I had drawn it with crayon. With my left hand. With my eyes closed.

Well that’s no good. I wanted to push myself to actually capture the person, not their effect. So here’s the image I used:

Not terrible, really. I think I should do more portraits, given this is my first in over a decade.

Sorry

For those of you who are awaiting today’s daily creative challenge post, I’m out for the evening, so I can’t show you the sketch of Harrison Ford as Dr. Jones.

That means 3 treats for you tomorrow:

  1. Finders Keepers revealed
  2. Dr. Jones sketch
  3. And tomorrow’s daily post.

Bye
