Completed: Topsy-Turvy Tea Set

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I hope you like the final state of this project. It was quite a bit of work, but now I have a fantastical home decoration or centerpiece. I may eventually list it for sale on Etsy.com, although for now we’re treating it as a quirky new house guest.

It is not notably functional; although I have had friends offer their suggestions. Sadly most good ideas ( “Make it a lamp!” ) would require a completely new build: utility would have to be part of it’s design from the beginning of the project. It does however make a nice candle holder / nightlight:

Nightlight mode: activated.

Wikipedia says Eyvind Earle (April 26, 1916 – July 20, 2000) was an American artist, author and illustrator, noted for his contribution to the background illustration and styling of Disney animated films in the 1950s.

His official site has numerous galleries for perusal. I especially recommend the Serigraph section - you’ll notice in images such as the one above a measured style recalling Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, for which he was responsible [cite] for styling, backgrounds and color.

Open a new tab for 8tracks.com 8tracks.com

This site lets you make, share & browse virtual mix tapes (up to 8 tracks per mix). There are some limitations on how many tracks you can skip, etc. but it’s only to keep the music companies happy.

While you’re there check out The Inferno by Graeme Revell feat. Emma Shapplin from the score for The Red Planet. It’s the first track on the mix in that link & it gives me the goose-bumps.

It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work. Blame the latest issue of Wired Magazine, but I have puzzles on the brain.

It’s the sort of puzzle you have to hold in your hands, so I can’t show you today, but tomorrow I’ll have scans of 2 art pieces & I’ll figure out a way for you to play online.

All I can show you right now are these views:

Ben Butcher = amazing artist

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I wanted to let you know about the fantastic collage & mixed-media artist, Ben Butcher.

Blue Bayou, Ben Butcher

Blue Bayou, Ben Butcher

With a distinct style to his own his pieces have no problems catching eyes, but it is the first work that I saw of his that keeps me coming back. I saw the Blue Bayou at the Disney Gallery in Disneyland earlier this year. Check out the hi-res on his site.
