One Good Bird Deserves Another

I really wanted to get some clay under my fingernails, and here is the result: a little ducky.

Here’s the concept art, a sketch of an existing design.

Based on the expression, I’m sure the little tadpoles & guppies are tickling his webbed feet! I’m sorry, but it’s nigh-impossible to take progress shots with hands caked in modeling clay. Here are two shots right after forming.

In the top-left of that picture, there are shreddings of a bubble wrap-lined mailing envelope. There is a ball of that in the body.

I let it air-dry for about half an hour, then placed it in the toaster oven for another half-hour at 150ºF.

A quick coat of cheap paint later:

I tried out the facial features with ink, but I wasn’t feeling it. I painted over it to work on it tomorrow. I wasn’t willing to stop playing with this character just yet however.

I decided to render the concept art:

What a happy little quacker-oat; cheers to you.
